Back Pain is a very common condition with nearly 8 out of 10 people suffering from it at some time. Many times it can be so painful it feels like there is something seriously wrong and even feel life threatening. Fortunately, most of the time the cause of back pain is an alteration in biomechanics. Meaning you’ve strained or sprained muscles or ligaments. These can hurt and sometimes mimic other serious conditions. Serious conditions are less likely but can occur. These would be conditions like cancer, aneurisms, infections, kidney stones, pregnancy, endometriosis, prostate issues or fibromyalgia to name a few. So what is the best way to find out if it’s biomechanical or one of these other conditions? First, keep a level head and remember that the severity of the pain is not always mean it’s a severe problem. Even the simplest of biomechanical issues can bring you to your knees in pain and fear. Second, seek a prompt examination by a qualified physician trained in detecting the more serious conditions but also one who can quickly determine if it’s a simple biomechanical issue. If you find the right physician you’ll most likely avoid a lot of “waiting to be seen” time and a lot of testing that may have been able to be avoided. Because there is a chance it is serious the “wait and hope it will go away” approach is to be avoided so do get in and get a professional to look at you. The examination to determine the source of your back pain in our office takes about twenty minutes and we usually can fit you in the schedule the same day you call.
